No workflow. Participants considered this a special case of Examination. The meeting discussion focuse primarily on those things that made it special, and the corresponding wish-list for application functionality.
Meeting Discussion 1 - as presented in the community design meeting
this workflow in progress needs a differntation between the kind of objects, bulk or not. depending on the quantity it makes sense to train non-conservators in this field. they likely will be highly interested in performing such tastks. perhaps we should still work on finishing this workflow.. it might be very worthwhile

Condition Check is of course relevant for museums of all types, so we are wondering if we could expect a workflow diagram which is relevant to fine art museums. The condition check work flow for large ethnographic or natural history collections is quite different both in regard to scope and purpose. Could the Survey workflow diagram be used for an individual object as well as for a large group of objects?

I think that ‘Level of expertise’, ‘Training possibilities’, Travel passports’ and ‘Stadardization of forms’ are all good ideas that needs working on .
We use a software, (on portable PC-tablets) that is an electronic version of the traditional condition report with annotated photographs of the objects together with text comments. This gives a history of how the condition changes over time and what events were involved. It could be used as a travel passport I believe.
The workflow diagram should include the different procedures where a condition checks take place: loan assessments, incoming- and outgoing loans during exhibitions, short and long term loans, storage arrangements, acquisitions, deaccession, rehousing, accident and calamities etc. Condition surveys and audits (depots and galleries) should also be included. Should also specify who can perform the different kinds of checks and documentaion of, and have the possibility to customise, as policies differ from institution to institution, country to country etc.
Agree with Staten Museum for Kunst that condition check work flows vary depending on the nature of the collection. While variables include batch vs item-by-item processing, other challenges arise in contemporary art , for instance, when one is charged with documenting/assessing the behavior of an installation or performance-based work. It might be worthwhile to push this topic a bit further by developing a couple/few workflows that act as useful strating points for the wide range of collections that will be examined.
